Warders Hotel Fremantle

Historical life meets current day

About the Project

Located in the heart of Fremantle, Warders is a boutique hotel located next door to the Fremantle markets. The iconic Warders’ Cottages were originally constructed as accommodation for the Fremantle Prison warders and their families.

The transformation of this property into a hotel, cocktail bar and Restaurant with rear garden will forever change the face of this part of town.

Considerations

The Cottage’s feature original stone and woodwork, which required careful planning and installation to facilitate the new technology introduced to each room, while protecting these elements of the original build. The well-known front façade of the limestone cottages needed to remain untouched but being strategically lit by new LED feature lighting.

The complex nature of integrating the modern technology being installed within a heritage-listed environment, proved a rewarding project and an impressive result.

The Scope of Works

The works consisted of the renovation of Block 1 of the Warders Cottage, creating an 11 room Hotel and the 15 seat Gimlet Bar while retaining heritage listed aspects of the build. Use of non-traditional building materials such as copper piping for the containment of electrical cabling created a great effect in this part of the build.

The ‘backyard’ of the cottages has been transformed into the brand new 220-seat Emily Taylor Asian fusion eatery including state of the art AV and lighting control systems ensuring a top level experience for all patrons.
